"Not Ashamed"

Today marks the beginning of the "Not Ashamed" campaign launched by Christian Concern, supported by its sister organisation the Christian Legal Centre.

Christian Concern says "The Not Ashamed campaign provides an opportunity for Christians across the UK to stand together and speak up for the Christian foundation of our nation, motivated by the conviction that Jesus Christ is good news not just for individuals or for the church but for society as a whole. Indeed, He is the only true hope for our nation".

You can read more about why the campaign has been launched and about what is involved on the Not Ashamed Website. You can also read about some of those who have been effectively barred from involvement in aspects of public life because of their commitment to biblical belief and behaviour.

The campaign is supported by Lord Carey, former Archbishop of Canterbury and now Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire, and Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali, former Bishop of Rochester and now Director of the Oxford Centre for Training, Research, Advocacy and Dialogue. Here's the video made by Bishop Michael and shown on YouTube:

The campaign takes its name from a phrase in Paul's letter to the Romans: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes". It has been pooh-poohed by both the British Humanist Association and the "Christian" think tank Ekklesia. Well - they would, wouldn't they?
