Prison Christian Fellowship Open Evening

Prison Christian Fellowship will be having an Open Evening where members will share news of the work and tell of opportunities to get involved. There will be information specific to our area and the work in HMP Northumberland. It's to be held (DV) on Tuesday 9th April 2013 at the New Life Christian Centre, 24 Dacre Street, Morpeth, NE61 1HW, beginning at 19:30. Free parking is available on the adjacent Morrison's car park.

Engagement Officer Justin Bloomfield writes:

As a volunteer-driven organisation, with over 1,700 volunteer members, we have a mission to show Christ’s love to prisoners by coming alongside them, praying and supporting them as they seek to change.

Prison Fellowship has the opportunity to run a victim awareness and restorative justice programme within HMP Northumberland called Sycamore Tree, which is run by our volunteers over six sessions. Sycamore Tree gives learners the chance to think about how their crime has affected others. It is faith based, and provides a unique opportunity for Christians to help prisoners to take responsibility for their actions and to share with them the hope of forgiveness and reconciliation – and it works! In England and Wales, in 2012-13 we ran 113 courses with the aim to run 123 in 2013-14 reaching around 2100 prisoners.

A graduate from the programme comments; “I have been truly changed by the accounts of the people who are affected by crime. It made me see the other side of the story and most of all, it made me realize that there are no victim-less crimes”

To achieve this we would really value your support! We currently need more volunteers to be able to support HMP Northumberland through prayer, and to run the Sycamore Tree programme. I would encourage you to watch the short clip about Sycamore Tree:
